Alt-X

The Alt-X campaign is aimed at trying to engage people with politics whether they choose to vote or not. The main focus is to make not voting visible thereby making it harder for polititians to dismiss it as apathy.

The emphasis is on the importance of your own vote to make people consider that not using it is something you should take a seriously as casting it in an election.

I developed the cross symbol as a tangible demonstration of dissatisfaction, a recognisable rallying point for protest. This idea was developed through the manifesto which I designed as a deliberate antidote to the bland conformity of mainstream political publications.

Since the 2015 general election – when fewer than one in four of the electorate voted for the party that won a clear majority of seats – the focus of the campaign has moved to work towards a fairer electoral system, a system where your vote really will count.
